What I'm Taking to Homecoming

I'm truly looking forward to sharing my creations and sampling those of my church family at homecoming today ! I'm carrying...
  1. "The" Green Bean Casserole (made with canned beans)
  2. Sweet Potato Souffle (recipe to come in a later post)
  3. Southern Plate's Macaroni Salad
  4. Southern Plate's Mandarin Orange Cake
  5. Walnut Pumpkin Pie (see below)
  6. Packaged rolls
I cut out this recipe and added it to my tried and true binder many years ago. Not exactly pretty but easy and scrumptious. Enjoy!

Walnut Pumpkin Pie

1 Keebler graham cracker pie crust

Filling Ingredients:
    1 15-oz can pumpkin
1 14-oz can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
    1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. of your preferred combination of ground cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, etc.
    1/2 tsp. salt

Topping Ingredients:
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    2 Tbsp flour
    2 Tbsp butter
    3/4 cup chopped Diamond walnuts

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Combine filling ingredients and pour into pie crust. Bake 15 minutes, then remove pie and reduce heat to 350 degrees. Combine brown sugar and flour, then cut in butter. Mix in nuts and sprinkle mixture on top of pie. Bake for 40 minutes or until knife inserted an inch from the outside of the pie comes out clean.

$3 DIY Slow Drain Fix (Not for the queasy)

(I was in no way compensated for this review. I spent the $3 required to conduct this experiment myself, and the maker of the product doesn't even know my name :)

Quite randomly, I ran across a post about this product, Zip-It, a few months ago and thought it was worth a try. It was very inexpensive at Home Depot for under $3! I decided to try it on the slow drain on my vanity sink, which had gotten much worse over the years. Read More >>

Rest in my "MEST"

The ladies over at 5 Minutes for Mom recently sent an email informing me that I'd been listed on their site. I'd filled out a form requesting this a few weeks ago. I was so excited! I followed the link, and sure enough, there I was...only it was listed as Mom's Best Mest. I was a bit mortified as it somewhat altered the image I was seeking. I mean, I know I claim "not perfection," but a MESS? My BEST MESS?? Read More >>

Driving Home (Old School Style)

As I was packing my tribe in the car to head home from church one Sunday night, I realized how delightfully cool it had turned out and announced we were driving home "old school" style. I can't express how tickled my babes were as the cool night air whipped their hair and blew through the car. It also brought back memories of things I'd long forgotten in the years I'd had the luxury of fully functioning AC in my car, like the sound of crickets and even streetlamps, if you'd come to a stop. I also remembered how, if it was REALLY hot, you dreaded stopping at stop lights and could hardly wait to get the "central air" flowing again! Ahhh, the good old days :)
